The CEREC System

CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics or CEramic REConstruction. The system replaces each step of the old process with three comfortable and convenient components. First, CEREC’s infrared digital camera creates a visual image of the tooth in need of repair, thereby eliminating the need for that mouthful of goop needed to take an impression. This image is fed into the CEREC computer system where 3-D CAD software designs your tooth restoration. In one step, every consideration is included in the make-up of your new crown: the color, the size, the shape and the grooves and pits of the biting surface. Next, this design is transferred to the milling unit in our office, where your new crown is fabricated from a whole piece of dental porcelain or composite resin in about 15 to 20 minutes. At the conclusion of this process, we can stain and polish the restoration if necessary to create a more natural appearance. Finally, Dr. Giamberardino checks to make sure the crown fits perfectly and then cements it on top of your prepared tooth. Your new same day crown requires the same care as your natural teeth; be sure to brush and floss everyday and schedule regular dental checkups with Dr. Giamberardino.
