The Importance of Using Dental Benefits

In December, we talked about the advantages of using your dental benefits before the year ended. Since we are early into 2014, we want to emphasize that point, making sure you remain in excellent oral health all through the year. Many people may not know that once the year ends, the benefits you accumulated throughout do not roll over to the next year. In order to start of 2014 on good footing, we recommend planning ahead and taking full advantage of your benefits before the end of the year. Since the American Dental Association recommends you visit your dentist at least twice a year, make it a priority to schedule your checkup appointments. The checkups are especially beneficial, as we take that opportunity to investigate your entire mouth, looking for any early signs of disease. If you were to put that off, the cost could end up being a lot more expensive and come out of your own pocket, versus having your dental benefits take care of the issue for you.

If you have a filling that needs to be restored, a new crown, or need to replace your dentures, it is important to use your dental benefits for that as well, as it gives you the opportunity to use up your annual maximums. All of this will end up saving you money down the road, and your mouth will be in better health because of it. Using Your Dental Benefits Before 2014!

Though it may not seem important, taking advantage of your dental insurance before the year ends can save you money in the long run. Because most insurance companies run off of the calendar year, whatever benefits you haven’t used before midnight December 30 is long gone.

Not comparable to your cell phone minutes, your dental insurance benefits don’t roll over to the new year if you have not used them. You work hard for your benefits, and not taking advantage of them before the year is up can possible leave you wasting hundreds of dollars. If you use your benefits before the New Year, you’ll be able to take advantage of your deductible before it resets. It’ll also give you the ability to use up your annual maximums. Another important reason is to take care of any dental woes before they get any worse! Even though it may seem like a small stain or discomfort now, along the line, it can possibly mean a more extensive procedure.

Catching Up with Dr. Giamberardino

Today we wanted to talk to you a little about Dr. Anthony Giamberardino. He is the primary dentist here at Giamberardino Dental Care, and is always ready to help restore smiles with his wealth of dental knowledge and experience.

Dr. Giamberardino graduated from Harvard College in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1985 with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine. This has provided him with a strong foundation of dental knowledge. He has also received the Harvard Community Health Plan DIAMOND AWARD which recognizes doctors with a commitment to serving both patients and their staff. On top of all this, he’s also a member of many associations, including the American Dental Association (ADA), the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS) and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD).

Not only is he an experienced dentist, but Dr. Giamberardino is also active in the community. He’s been a member of the Medford Chamber of Commerce, a member and past president of the Medford Rotary Club, a vice president and member of the Board of Directors of the Medford Rotary Club, and even sponsors the Bernardo Giamberardino Memorial Scholarship for high school students.

The Importance of Flossing

While we all know that it’s important to floss our teeth daily, that doesn’t mean we’re all doing it. It’s really important to make sure you floss because flossing removes food particles stuck between your teeth that can contribute to decay.

Flossing is an important part of general dentistry and can help keep your smile healthy. When you come visit us at Giamberardino Dental Care for your dental checkup we can answer any questions you might have about flossing and can demonstrate the proper technique. Plaque can build up between your teeth and can harden into calculus or tartar. Over time this could lead to decay or even gum disease, so it’s important to floss regularly.

This article from the ADA (American Dental Association) has some helpful tips on the proper flossing technique. If you have trouble getting in between your teeth with the floss, a floss threader or disposable pre-threaded flosser can be helpful. These are all found at drugstores.

VELscope Oral Cancer Screening For Oral Health
